What we believe

An overview of our teaching on Scripture, God, salvation and the church. Read or download the full doctrinal statement below.

01The ScripturesThe Bible is our foundation.

We believe the Old and New Testaments are verbally inspired by God and inerrant in the original writings. The 66 books of the Bible are our supreme and final authority in faith and practice. We use the King James Version for preaching and teaching.

[2 Timothy 3:16–17] · [2 Peter 1:21]
02GodOne God, eternally three persons.

We believe in one living God, the Creator and supreme authority, existing eternally as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God is holy, loving, just, merciful, and unchanging.

[Deuteronomy 6:4] · [Matthew 28:19]
03Jesus ChristOur Saviour and Lord.

We believe Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, fully God and fully man. He was born of the virgin Mary, lived without sin, shed His blood as the only ground of atonement for sins, rose bodily and ascended into heaven, where He intercedes for believers.

[John 1:1, 14] · [Romans 3:25] · [Hebrews 9:14]
04The Holy SpiritGod at work in the believer.

We believe the Holy Spirit is a divine person, equal with the Father and the Son. He convicts the world of sin, righteousness and judgement; He regenerates, indwells, seals, instructs and empowers believers.

[John 16:8] · [Ephesians 1:13] · [1 John 2:27]
05SatanA real adversary.

We believe Satan is a real person, created perfect but fallen through pride. He is the author of the fall and the enemy of God and humanity.

[Job 1:6–7] · [Ezekiel 28:14–15] · [Isaiah 14:12–13]
06Humanity & sinCreated by God. In need of grace.

We believe God created the universe in six literal, 24-hour days and made humanity in His image. We reject evolution and alternative theories of origin. Through Adam’s fall, all people inherit a sinful nature and cannot save themselves.

[Genesis 1–2] · [Exodus 20:11] · [Romans 5:12]
07SalvationBy grace, through faith.

We believe salvation is God’s gift through faith in Jesus Christ, never earned by works. Repentance means turning from unbelief and reliance on one’s own way of salvation to faith in Christ alone. Those who are truly saved are secure in Him forever.

[Ephesians 2:8–9] · [John 16:9] · [John 14:6] · [John 10:28–29]
08The ChurchA people belonging to Christ.

We believe Jesus Christ is the head of the church. The local church governs its own affairs, gathers for worship and fellowship, and carries out missions according to New Testament teaching. We support Independent Baptist churches. Membership follows salvation, baptism by immersion and agreement with the church’s doctrine. Its two ordinances are baptism and the Lord’s Supper.

[Matthew 28:19–20] · [Acts 2:41–42] · [1 Corinthians 11:23–26]
09Christian living & stewardshipSet apart to honour God.

We believe Christians are called to separation from sinful practices and to support the local church through tithes, offerings, talents and time. Believers retain the old nature but may live victoriously through God’s power. Church music should honour God’s holy character and build up believers. We reject contemporary Christian music (CCM) and Christian rock music. All church services shall be conducted using traditional Christian hymns.

[Romans 12:1] · [Galatians 5:16–25] · [2 Corinthians 9:6–7] · [Colossians 3:16]
10Marriage, family & human lifeFaithfulness in the home.

We believe marriage is the lifelong union of one man and one woman, with sexual intimacy reserved for marriage. Divorced persons, including those who have remarried, may serve in the church but may not hold leadership positions. Men and women are spiritually equal, with distinct responsibilities in the home and church. Parents are responsible for their children’s spiritual and moral upbringing. We believe human life begins at conception and oppose abortion.

[Genesis 2:24] · [Matthew 19:4–6] · [Ephesians 5:21–33; 6:1–4] · [Psalm 139:14–16]
11GovernmentAuthority under God.

We believe God established the home, the church and the state, each with its own responsibilities. Every person and every authority is accountable to God and governed by His Word.

[Romans 13:1–7] · [Ephesians 5:22–24] · [Hebrews 13:17] · [1 Peter 2:13–14]
12The last thingsOur hope is in His return.

We believe Christ will gather His church before the Tribulation and return to reign on earth for a thousand years. We believe in bodily resurrection, eternal conscious punishment for the unsaved and eternal fellowship with God for the saved.

[1 Thessalonians 4:13–18] · [Revelation 3:10] · [Revelation 20:1–15] · [Revelation 21:1–4]
