Getting married at Open Door
Guidance for couples preparing for marriage, including counselling, the ceremony, music and dress.

Marriage preparation
We believe marriage is a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman, entered into before God.
Open Door Baptist Church conducts weddings only when both the bride and groom are from an Independent Baptist church.
Please read the full wedding guidelines together before making arrangements.
They explain the church’s convictions and the guidance for counselling, music, dress and the ceremony. Speak with the pastor about your plans and any questions.
Before booking your wedding
- Speak with the pastor. Discuss your plans, your testimony of faith and possible dates before booking services.
- Prepare together. Read the full guidelines together and take part in premarital counselling.
- Confirm the arrangements. Discuss the ceremony, music, clothing, facilities and rehearsal with the church.
Common questions
The full guide contains the detailed requirements. The church can help you work through each step.
How do we begin?
Contact the church before choosing a wedding date. The pastor will discuss your plans, the church’s marriage convictions, premarital counselling, and the availability of the facilities.
What preparation is expected?
Couples take part in premarital counselling. Discuss the counselling materials and required sessions with the pastor, and make arrangements well before the wedding.
How are music and dress approved?
Please discuss music with the church at least four weeks before the ceremony. Contact the church to reach the wedding co-ordinator and discuss dress expectations before purchasing clothing, allowing time for any needed adjustments.
What should we know about the ceremony?
The wedding is treated as a worship service. The church’s guidelines cover conduct, clothing, music, the rehearsal, and use of the facilities. Weddings are not held on Sundays. Read the complete guide and discuss any questions with the pastor.
What arrangements and documentation should we confirm?
Contact the church to discuss practical arrangements and confirm any documentation needed for your wedding before making bookings or purchases.
